Over the last year, we have seen many reports indicating the increasing popularity of 1970’s styles. From the carefree spirit of Boho and Hippie to the outrageous glamour of the Elite Discotheques – these trends are tipped-off to have a powerful influence on fashion, interiors and the entertainment industries for 2022 and beyond.
We believe that this may be a reaction to the enforced restrictions and uncertainty of the past two years and that people are ready for a new, optimistic beginning, seeking freedom, independence, a sense of community and the pursuit of pleasure – (echoing the 1970’s counter-cultures following the Vietnam War).
We expect to see an increase in natural, responsibly sourced and recycled materials, warm earthy tones (including ochre, terracotta, peach, tangerine, and beige), curvaceous forms, shimmering textures, extravagant patterns and continued use of wicker, macramé, faux fur and animal prints.
We also expect to see a return in popularity of silver finishes, used in conjunction with brass and other warm metallics, for an upmarket but eclectic feel. This mood board, designed by James Pilling, attempts to evoke the spirit of New York’s legendary Studio 54 Discotheque.
